Karlee's Journey
Hey everyone!
My name is Karlee Boersma and I have been living with ITP since 2011. It has been a rollercoaster, as many of you who have this disorder know. For those of you who are hearing about ITP for the first time, it is a disorder that effects your platelet count, and in my case, causes them to go very low for an unknown reason. Having a low platelet count means that your blood does not clot as well or at all depending how low it is. Leading to easy bruising, bloody noses, or more serious conditions like internal bleeding. I have been through various treatments but I am lucky as these treatments have generally worked (atleast temporarily) for me and have allowed me to live my life. I have been blessed and able to pursue my dream and became a Registered Nurse and am now in my Masters in Nursing at the University of Windsor. Some days are tougher than others with the fatigue, nose bleeds, and other associated symptoms that I experience. But for the most part, I try to be positive and have such a strong support system to lean on to help me through this journey.
Having said that, I want to be able to use my story to help support others and raise awareness to find a cure for this disease! I have just committed to being a facilitator in the London area and we will be holding a meeting after the run/walk on April 25th from 1-3 pm at the Courtyard by Marriott London. I really hope that this message is just one more push that you need to get the support and love that you deserve!
No one should have to fight alone, lets raise awareness together!
