Welcome to My Personal Page
I was diagnosed with ITP almost 4 years ago, an auto immune disease where your spleen destroys your platelets. Normal counts are between 150,000-450,000. At my lowest i had 6,000 platelets and averaged around 12,000 last year. Since then it’s been an emotional, mental and physical roller coaster. Hospitalizations, heavy doses of steroids (hello moon face, more than a few times) a splenectomy, finding out I had a second spleen, radiation for than, weekly shots, a bone marrow biopsy, cataract surgery (due to steroids) and more drugs....all failing in my fight. It was discouraging and frustrating. I rarely got good news that my platelets were stable. Last year we found my miracle drug that has changed my life. Unfortunately, with that brand new drug, I’ve experienced many of the side effects, though they’re managed with other drugs. I’m happy to report that I’ve been stable for 10 months. We’ve never been able to pinpoint what triggered this, but I strongly believe stress was a major factor. I’m grateful for the incredible support from my family and friends....they have carried me through some tough times.
