Welcome to My Personal Page
Hello -
My name is Joey, and I'm 10 years old. At the age of 2, I was diagnosed with Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP). ITP is a rare bleeding disorder. There is no cure. From April through December 2011 I spent every two weeks in and out of the hospital trying to keep up my platelet count, and during that time I had 44 blood draws.
Eight years later, I enjoy hip hop, I play baseball, basketball, and soccer, only at safe platelet count levels. Playing sports is an important part of my life and how I have fun. My mom and dad always tell my coaches and teachers of my condition and I know that I play with limitations, based on my platelet count. The lower my platelet count, the more easily I bruise and bleed. There was one baseball season I had some scary experiences by getting hit by a pitch many times. My doctor told my parents that as I got older I might need to rethink the sports that I play. Something safer. All I want is to be a normal kid. So, I'm asking you to join TEAM IKAIKA on November 9th at MASON Regional Park in Irvine, CA for the 8th Annual Pump It Up for Platelets 5K Walk/Run event. Together we can raise awareness and one day find a cure!
Thank you!
