In his spare time, Dr. Tarantino enjoys time with his wife Julie, and their six children (actually 3 children and 3 bicycles). Dr. Tarantino lived in Tucson for three years during his pediatrics residency but never participated in the El Tour de Tucson until years later. He began cycling for fitness and transportation during his training to become a pediatric hematologist, and over the past 20+ years has logged more than 160,000 miles on his bicycles. In 1994 he rode in the El Tour for the first time with a colleague from his days in Tucson. "It was an adventure, balancing the hotdogs and cookies at the rest stops with actually finishing the 109 mile ride. My fondest memory of the El Tour is raising over $10,000 for Tu Nidito (a vital resource for children and families whose lives have been impacted by serious illness or death and a principle beneficiary of the El Tour donations).”
Dr. Tarantino has been involved with PDSA as a Medical Advisor for over a decade and has cared for many hundreds of persons with ITP in the last 25 years. “What a tremendous cause to ride in support of PDSA and the ITP community. PDSA has been a beacon of hope for countless persons with ITP.” Dr. Tarantino is excited to ride 104 more miles to help raise money for the Platelet Disorder Support Association.
